KRIBS FOR KRITTERS RABBIT RESCUE AND SANCTUARY ADOPTION POLICY

(Rev. March 19, 2025)

At Kribs For Kritters Rabbit Rescue and Sanctuary, we do not offer same-day or walk-in adoptions. This policy ensures that all potential adopters, particularly first-time rabbit guardians, have sufficient time to fully understand the responsibilities involved in adopting and caring for a rabbit. Adopters must thoroughly research rabbit care, complete all required online forms, and participate in our comprehensive, multi-step screening process. This careful approach is designed to ensure the best possible match for both our rabbits and adopting families.

SPAYING/NEUTERING AND VACCINATIONS

All rabbits available for adoption through Kribs For Kritters Rabbit Rescue and Sanctuary have already been spayed or neutered. This ensures the health and wellbeing of the rabbits, significantly reduces potential behavioral issues, and prevents certain serious health problems, including reproductive cancers.

VACCINATION POLICY

All rabbits adopted from Kribs For Kritters Rabbit Rescue and Sanctuary are fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered prior to adoption, ensuring they are protected against common diseases and ready for a healthy start in their new homes.

BONDING POLICY FOR EXISTING RABBITS

If you currently have a rabbit and wish to adopt a companion from our rescue, we offer a bonding service at no additional charge as part of the adoption process. Adopters are required to bring their existing rabbit to our rescue and leave them in our care for several days. During this time, our founder will utilize her specialized rapid bunny bonding methods to safely introduce and bond your rabbit with the newly adopted rabbit. To ensure safety and compatibility, we require that any rabbits being introduced have been vaccinated (RHDV2) and spayed or neutered, which is standard for all rabbits at Kribs For Kritters.

POST-ADOPTION SUPPORT AND GUIDANCE

Kribs For Kritters Rabbit Rescue and Sanctuary provides ongoing guidance and support after adoption for as long as your rabbit lives. Our team remains available to answer questions, offer advice, and address any concerns or issues that arise throughout your rabbit’s lifetime. We are committed to helping adopters ensure their rabbits remain healthy, happy, and well-adjusted members of the family.

RETURN POLICY

Should circumstances change and you can no longer care for your adopted rabbit, the rabbit must be returned directly to Kribs For Kritters Rabbit Rescue And Sanctuary. Independent rehoming, selling, or surrendering to another rescue or shelter is strictly prohibited. Returning the rabbit directly to our rescue helps us ensure they continue to receive proper care and attention in an environment that meets their needs.

HOUSEHOLD AND PET SAFETY ADOPTION GUIDELINES

Kribs For Kritters Rabbit Rescue and Sanctuary does NOT adopt rabbits to households with young children or homes where pets who are natural predators to rabbits—such as dogs or cats—will have unrestricted access to the rabbit's living area. This policy is strictly enforced to ensure the safety and well-being of our rabbits.

INDOOR HOUSING REQUIREMENT FOR RABBIT SAFETY AND WELL-BEING

Additionally, Kribs For Kritters Rabbit Rescue and Sanctuary does NOT adopt rabbits to homes intending to house them outdoors. Domestic rabbits must live indoors to ensure their safety, health, and emotional well-being. Indoor living protects rabbits from predators, extreme weather conditions, disease-carrying insects, and isolation. Rabbits are social creatures that thrive on regular interaction and stimulation, which is best provided in an indoor setting as part of the family.

To begin the adoption process, all potential adopters must first complete our online forms and detailed online Adoption Questionnaire in it's entirety. This questionnaire helps us understand your expectations, assess the suitability of your home environment, and match you with the rabbit(s) most compatible with your family’s lifestyle. We encourage adopters to consider the possibility of allergies in advance, as rabbits and their hay can trigger significant allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.

Once your online forms and adoption questionnaire have been submitted, an adoption counselor will contact you at your scheduled call time to conduct your preliminary screening. Please note that this call will not take place until the Kribs For Kritters Questionnaire has been fully completed. If the questionnaire has not been submitted prior to the scheduled call, the call will be canceled. Should your call be canceled due to incomplete forms, please allow 3-5 days after submitting your completed questionnaire for our initial response. If you do not hear back from us within this timeframe, please follow up via our contact form.

Our rigorous screening process includes:

  • Completion of the online forms and adoption questionnaire

  • Initial screening via phone

  • Follow-up screenings via email

  • A potential home check

  • In-person meeting with the rabbit(s)

Should you be approved for adoption, you will be required to sign a Kribs For Kritters Rabbit Rescue and Sanctuary Adoption Contract and provide a copy of your driver’s license. We only consider local adoptions and regretfully cannot approve out-of-state placements, as this policy is in the best interest of our rescued rabbits.

The entire adoption process can take up to four weeks to complete. Please be advised that completion of this process does NOT guarantee approval. Kribs For Kritters Rabbit Rescue and Sanctuary reserves the right to refuse adoption to any individual at any time, for any reason. Our primary commitment is to ensure each rabbit in our care is placed in the safest, most suitable, and loving home possible.

To ensure the best adoption experience, appointment times are necessary. Please call or text our Adoption Line at  562-943-2296 at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled adoption date to confirm your attendance. If you arrive early, you may be asked to wait until your scheduled time.

Adopters must be at least 18 years of age or older to sign the adoption contract for any Kribs For Kritters rabbit.

If you have any further questions about our adoption procedures or policies, please do not hesitate to call our Hopline at 866-BUNNY44 or reach us using our contact form.
